    - Why remove the thread starter from the index? That actually does seem useful, because many people like following the posts of several given members. Without it on the index, you'd have to open every thread to see it's author.
    - Moving is probably doable.

Useful for what? If you know the date range you are looking for, you can already enter that as search criteria.
I'm not saying it's not useful, just asking how...that isn't covered by said search criteria.

Search results are the one place that we can't presently put it. At least not easily. We would have to alter the primary search queries, and that's non-trivial.

Like I said, I think it's cluttered, but if it is found useful enough I'll get over it. Let me ponder this for a few days, and I'll see what I can come up with for everyone.

I solved it - explanation below

The way I've seen it on other forums is just the date (not the time) and it next to the user. That way it's not another line and just the date, both cut down on clutter. But hey no big deal. Just throwing it out there......Here is a forum that shows what I'm talking about.

Yes, I agree that would be better. That's why I said above that moving it there is doable - I just have to figure out exactly how. solved

Get rid of the "Start Date:" wording and the time and put both the person that started the thread and the date on one line.

You get rid of the clutter(at least IMO ) and you present more information.

For threads that have only 1, 2 or 3 pages, the start date usually isn't something we're (meaning those residing in the same house that I do) not interested in since those threads are usually started in the last day or two and will probably die in another day or two.

However, there are threads hanging around that have been going since the forums started (at least they feel that way ). It would be really nice to know when those threads with umpteen pages started. It gives us a better perspective on the thread when we see it in the "new posts" listing.

Also, some threads get bumped and become active again for a day or two. Again, it would be nice to know that this is an oldie, but goodie, that got bumped. The start date makes this obvious.

Now, most of the threads listed on the "new posts" list are probably in that first category above. This means that for most of the threads the start date is superfluous and gives credence to the "clutter" argument. This is unfortunate since when we want the start date, it is really good information. However, by streamlining the information as suggested above, the "clutter" isn't really that bad - only 10 more characters before or after the originators name.

    BUMP.

Look at any of the thread indexes. They should have *exactly* what you were asking for, including in the search results.

Whoa. That's cool. Very useful, and not something that causes too much clutter, IMHO.

FWIW I prefer the less cluttered look. The date of the first post is on the actual post so it is not necessary at least for me to have it also on the thread title.

I like it better now that the "( )" were added.
