Rain tarp or no rain tarp - South-East Asia

Dude,its SE Asia!Of course you need a tarp.Its like asking if i need a hat in Africa.
Its going to be very hot sun or brutal rain most of the time.

As others have said....take the tarp.
As most of SE Asia is in the tropics, the sun is harsh & during the monsoon,
rain falls like a waterfall. You'll need protection from both.
Keep an eye on Dehydration & Heat stress.
Apart from that have a great time....I spent a year there I didn't want to come home !

Except for the last part. I spent some time there in the 70's. I couldn't wait to get out of there.
It is a beautiful place and I wouldn't mind going back, NOW.

ETA: A tarp will also help keep the little beasties from dropping in on you during your rest time. I know you've got a net, BUT, waking up with a rather large insect type critter inches from your face is quite unnerving.
