very light frost on the reflectix pad and typical frost around my face and head end of the hammock. I used a fleece shirt as sort of a mask over my face and there was a lot of frost on the outside of it. I think if I camped out for 2 or 3 more nights, the frost would become a major issue as it starts to melt and refreeze in the sleeping bag forming ice crystals. after a few nights, if you can't get the ice out, it starts to melt when you crawl into bed and then things get cold. With practice, vapor barriers can prevent this. Fronkey would definitely be a great source for VB tips.

    Brad49426 Very impressive!
"We're did you get your Acu-rite thermometer?"

I just new people were going to want to know. Any battery operated thermometer will likely fail around 0 and many digital thermometers don't go down past -4. You just need to get a thermometer with a wired sensor. Or, you could probably get away with a non digital type but the digital one tracks the max and min temps s well.
So, where did you get yours?

Congrats to you, but Shug(and Kurt) don't have the low record. It's held by Turk, I think, or possibly Fronkey. I believe it's in the minus 30's. Either way, great for you and it's not for this Florida boy.
Truk's record was set using a wood stove plus Shug has probably broken his old record this weekend on a campout north of Ely, MN.

Kudos on the frigid hang! I've been working my way down from 95 F this summer to -5 F this month. I broke the zero barrier and don't really intent to go any lower! I like that you got a little chilled at 25 F and, with a little tweak, slept great 50 degrees colder!

If Shug was camping this past weekend then he likely beat my record but we would have to see what his thermometer reads. Also, he has much more appropriat gear. For this trip I had no UQ or TQ, used a eno double nest and used my pulk tarp as a make shift door. So this is dedicated to all of those who get out there and make it happen because they love the outdoors. I'm sure many would agree that you don't need the nicest, lightest, newest gear to enjoy the woods. For many of us, our gear pile grows slower than we like (x-mas only comes once a year right ) but we still get out there and that's what it's all about.

I am guessing there are a number of hangs that are documented to be that low or lower. The coldest that I have posted on here was -29 (https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=29240) and have had a few other nights that beat that low (-32* was my lowest). I had one night that was about -10* and 60 MPH winds recorded at the closest station. I have no idea what the windchill on a night like that is.
