VA/Can anyone recommend a safe place to hang overnight Dec.31-Jan.1?

I don't want to drive to far outside of northern Virginia. I would be willing to drive up to an hour or so.

I thought about the AT but I have never been there by myself before and wondered how safe it would be.

Pohick Bay Park allows hammocks but are inside their dedicated camp sites. Prince William Park also allows hammocks in their primitive area. Be sure you have 2" straps. If you don't have them now, you can pick them up at the Harbor Freight in Sterling.

BTW, I am just around the corner from you Cascades

You are close! I don't have 2" straps only 1.5". I hope the stores are open so I can pick some up tomorrow. Do both places require 2" straps or only for Prince William?

I know for sure PW does but don't know about Pohick. If you can't get 2" straps PM me and I can let you borrow mine.

PWF Prmitive and Oak Ridge camps are closed until FEB. First time they have done that. We had the NOVA 2nd annual hang there at the end of NOV. They closed 1 DEC to save $.

You can hang at Bull Run. Althought it is a "campground", it's pretty empty this time of year.
