    Sipsey Wilderness, AL

Anyone ever camp at Sipsey? I was wanting to plan a backpacking trip for the spring but I have never been. From reading the site online it seems like there are several river crossings that can get pretty deep. I was interested in an out-and-back to the big tree from the Northwest parking area/trailhead.

Anyone have any advice or thoughts for me? TIA

The Sipsey can be fun the terrain is not hard. I have not been in a few years, but the streams can get pretty full. IIRC from the west to the big tree there were only creek crossings; not too bad. Lots of beautiful water falls to see. The maps and trail descriptions are generally accurate.

When you decide on some dates list them here and perhaps we can get a group together for a hike and hang.

Its an excellent site.. did it last summer in the middle of a rain storm, terrain is very forgiving. Well made maps for the trails there, and not too hard to get around. Love the wilderness!

One VERY important item though, it is in a tornado funnel, watch out for dead trees and widowmakers.
.... the Aardvark (earth pig)... a rather unremarkable creature whose sole claim to fame is that it is the first animal listed in the dictionary.
