    Unhappy Thread injector issues

So I was in the middle of making my bridge hammock and my Singer 401a started missing the thread in the bobbin. As the needle goes down the bobbing or cradle doesnt catch the thread and when it does it tends to shred the thread and cut it. This happened while sewing through webbing laid over mule tape that was wrapped with 1.1oz nylon. I have sewed through thicker material before with no issues. I tried 3 different needles and cant get it to work on even thin fabric. Any help?

Try winding a new bobbin before you go playing with anything. I had the same problem, did the same thing as you (different needles) and it ended up being the bobbin that wasn't wound nicely.

I always keep my fingers on the thread as it's winding onto the bobbin so that I can do a bit of control in the stacking of the thread onto the bobbin (if that makes any sense..)

And, as always when you're having a problem, test everything on scrap before you go back to working on the real thing.

Oh, I also had that type of problem when I was overtired and put the darn needle in backwards...duh!!

Omg I did have the needle in backwards. I had broken a needle and replaced it with a #14 and preceded to sew for another few mins before I started having problems. We'll my cradle got a nice polishing out of the deal. Thanks so much. Back to work. Been working on this for about 4 hours so I'll cut myself alittle slack.

    Thanks again.
