I think I fixed it.... yayayayayayayayayayayayaya. I guess if you take something apart long enough you can find something. It appears this machine had work done on it and when the person reassembled they over tightened something. The part is complex in that there is a spring and a screw into something that is then screwed into something on the other side of the main housing. So when you tighen the screw that goes into the part it further tightens everything on the other side. This caused the reverse action to stick. I oiled, and reattached and sure enough the reverse button pushes in then springs back up. Now I just need my gear to arrive and then I need to figure out either how to snake it in or take the other half of the machine apart to replace it.
