2014 Arkansas Ozark Hang - March 14-16

The more I thought about it the more I wanted to help you out. Started looking at trails. There is a trail called the Old River Trail. It leaves Steel Creek and pretty much follows the river to Kyle's Landing. Looking at my map the trail hits a few really slow rises no higher than 1000' and the river is at 900'. You get the hike in without the difficult trail.

Has anyone been on the ORT in the Kyles/Steel/Erbie area? Reason I ask, is that I've canoed the river from Kyles all the way to the White River. The ORT just follows the river in most of it. NOT a fun walk. Tons of rocks. The BRT, at Kyles, Ozark, Erbie....all very nice, up off the river, forest, sandy...nice trail, easy to follow.

We just hiked the BRT from Boxley to Steel Creek last weekend... this is a great trail with some beautiful vistas of the river valley. It does have some 500 to 600 foot steep climbs and descents, but is an overall very manageable hike. I'll eventually post a trip report, but here are a few teaser pics of the terrain:

anyone interested in possibly doing some paddling on Saturday? We did it last year with someone that knew the area. We would love to meet up with someone to tag along with????

Half of what you need to do is done just by posting "your in". Now all you need to do is show up with all you need to survive for the amount of days/nights you plan on spending plus a meal for the pot luck night
If you want to join in on any of the hikes or paddles some of us are doing, just read back on all the post on this thread to see who is doing what and when. Then private message them and ask if you could join them.
Glad to have you at this hang. It is by far the best one I've been to. Smokehouse is a great guy, and pretty much ensures everyone attending has a great experience.

Last year we had maybe 15 or so kayaks for the Saturday float. I'll be bringing mine and I'm sure there will be several others.

Little bacon got two kyacks for Christmas so we won't have to borrow any this year. So looking forward to granger's cooking!!!

Yes, I plan on camping out on the trail as least one night. Looking forward to this one.
