I am going to keep an eye on this. My brother and I have been talking about a trip to this area.

Jasper Arkansas is the closest "town".

But remember you will be in the mountains, but down on the river. Figure 5 degrees cooler or more.
One thought for folks showing up before the Friday when the rangers "open" the camp. When I did the river in past years, "closed" campgrounds were locked. Latrine/Bath house locks, water was off and a big gate or chain kept cars/trucks out of the parking area. We drove into Kyles last year when it was open (May). I don't remember any gate, but I do remember that 45 degree one lane dirt road into Kyles landing and I don't remember anyplace to park if the campground is still locked (before Friday). Other camps that were "closed" last year, you could not drive into. Chains up, gates locked and such.
While you CAN camp, you still need a place for the cars.
If anyone is nearby before the hang, maybe check and see if you can park even if the camp ground is closed, or is there a place I'm forgetting to park that isn't on a one-lane, 45 degree dirt road!

I went to kyles landing twice last year. During peak season is the only time parking was an issue only due to day trips down the river and that's where they pull most people out. I don't ever remember seeing a gate because it shares the 60° road with the boyscout camp next door. I'm going to try and be there the Wednesday before. If there is any issues I'll go to the restraunt at the top of the hill with free WiFi and post any issues, I'm looking forward to Oldgringo's coffee and Caveman's stories.
Can someone post a link to a topo map with trails of the area with Kyles landing. I'm not familiar with the area and want to learn where the hiking trails are. Gonna get my hike on...
Update: Ouachitamaps.com has fantastic maps of the area.
Anyone familiar with a loop near Kyles landing?
I believe the Buffalo River trail goes right by the camp area....I hung my hammock last year at the start of our canoe trip, right by the trail (nice trees). You could hike out a bit and back, worse case.

Just put it on the calendar for the wife and I.
On my trips to this area I have noticed there are not a ton of trees in that camp, are most people camping on the outskirts, or hanging between car and lantern pole?
I guess we will see when we get there baring any spring break changes.
In the main camp area trees are a premium! There are places all around the camps. This year I plan to bring a turtle dog stand to free up trees for other people. You will not regret going it is a lot of fun and last year I learned a lot. Watch out for the people coming from LA. Last year I think Granger cooked up a lost hiker in the gumbo. the strange part was it was the best gumbo I ever had!!!!!!
