'All arms' climbing is a common beginner problem.

Even so, I usually found that cold hands were a problem from the gripping and hanging. It's a lot more tiring on lead when you have to place protection. On steep ground I always used wrist 'loops', BTW - huge difference in energy conservation.

OP: Nice video - thanks! (I'm glad there were no helmet cams when I climbed - I was probably much clumsier than I imagined! )
Thanks! I am psyched that my friend didnt leave out the part where he tried sticking his tool into the ice with the middle of his handle. At first I was like "why did he even attempt that!?" but then I realized there are so many times when I think a specific move would be a good idea until I try it and fail miserably, haha.

I was like "why did I even attempt that!?" was my thought (while airborne) after putting my knee down on an ice slope at the top of a steep section of waterfall ice, one time ....I only did that once.
Sometimes the 'brain of a 6-year old' that's been hiding just takes over!

Anyhow, it was only about a 10 foot fall, the protection I placed was solid, and I had a reliable (and slightly overweight ) belayer. No harm done to body, ego slightly damaged.

I never did make that mistake again, though.

Thanks again for the video and the discussion.

Wow. I've almost slid off multiple roofs some (3-4 story) in my time for work in winter. Which thankfully we no longer get onto snowy & icy roofs any more. This is a whole different ball park though. Definitely not something I'd venture to try, but I'm glad you guys had fun!

leading ice is a whole new level! I'm glad your gear didn't pop!

Don't try ice unless you are prepared to have an unstoppable desire to empty your bank account on more climbing gear.

Mic vid, looked like a really nice trip. Glad you both got home safely, especially after going in the water.
