    Smile Polar Vertex hits US

We have had a lot of posts about new personal bests and cold weather adventures lately and it looks like Mother Nature is prepared to assist. This "Polar Vertex" is predicted to bring some record cold weather to much of the US. Looks like many people will have opportunities to test their gear and set new personal bests. I am sure we will get some nice reports.

Please be careful, know your gear and limits, and have your bail-out plans in place. I would hate to hear about someone getting themselves in trouble.

Well said. I'm getting -20* tonight with 18mph wind. I was more than warm a couple nights ago at -6*, would try it tonight but my tarp is only diamond shape, it won't protect me from that windchill. Maxi winter tarp is being made for me.

Hoping for some record cold here.

I'll be out tonight and tomorrow night to continue to test my ultra cold quilt set. Hoping for some record lows. I've been using my small cuben tarp so far, not sure if I want to switch over to my winter tarp or see how the quilts handle the worst possible conditions exposed to the wind.

Actually, to be technically correct, it's called a "typo"

Tomorrow is when they said it's supposed to be bad.

They actually cancelled work for us tomorrow. First time in the 5 years I've been at that job they've cancelled for weather.

As I've said before though, the weather terrorists on the news love to get people all fired up by overestimating the amount of snow or level of cold. Whatever gets them ratings.

EDIT: [Ok, so maybe it isn't just the newsies]

    HAHA! only -33F

I am really looking forward to reading about new backyard PB from all over the country. We all can't be a short drive to -40F
My PB is -19F and I sure hope with this Polar Vortex phenomena I can beat that.

    Be safe everyone.

Hmmm... I'm sitting here looking at these temps. You guys are crazy!

Temps here in Phoenix Az right now are 65 / 37. No where near you guys. I get frost bite just trying to wrap my head around those temps.
