    Success and oops!

I've had my DIY underquilt down to the mid 40's in the past. Last month I got cold at 36 degrees. Feet were cold and everything. Last week I tried again with a second underquilt. I also used a jacket around my foot box and a heated water bottle. The temperature got down to 46 and I sweated like crazy. But last night he got down to a balmy 29 degrees.

Using my DIY gathered end hammock. With a full length climashield 2.5oz attached UQ and a second 3/4 UQ of the same underneath. A Walmart duck down sleeping bag modify into a TQ and a fleece liner. I wrapped my jacket around my foot box and used a heated water bottle behind my legs. I slept totally comfortable and warm all night. Mother nature woke me up to water the trees in the morning.

I even made my morning coffee from the hammock. That's where the oops comes in. After boiling my water, I set my TI pot into my koozie before it cooled and melted the handle to my koozie. Oops!!!

I'll call this a huge learning success.

Good example of how to know your equipment and how to extend the temp range if needed.

Glad to hear that it all worked out well. Sorry 'bout the cozy, but at least it's fairly easy to replace!

I kept reading thinking there was going to be a water bottle malfunction in the hammock. Whew! Edge of my seat right there! (i need friends) Glad the learning curve only applied to the reflectix.

I had this same thing happen... to prevent in the future, I lined the inside of the koozie with reflectix tape which should be able to handle the hot handles.

I was thinking of cutting a slot for the handles in the cozy. But I might try that reflectix trick as well.
