With the Arctic cold dipping waay down into the US, i'm sure plenty of you got out and tested some gear! I couldn't resist the negative temperatures either
here is a short video of my set up last night (cut short; I slept with the GoPro battery, but not the camera itself...)
Gear: Sheltowee 20° Hammock with a DIY 20° UQ stacked; DIY 20° TQ with a MontBell 40° stacked (all down); no tarp
Clothing: merino wool top baselayer with hood; puffiest down jacket I had with hood; merino wool buff; Beard Beanie for head and face; loose cotton pj bottoms; loose Mountain Kaki cords; Sierra Designs down booties. (had to take the booties off early in the night, slept warm without socks!)
Overall it was a great test. I've always had great success stacking insulation above and below. The wind was not an issue either, it rocked me to sleep . That is a great feature of my Sheltowee Hammocks too; high side walls and extra fabric at the head and foot ends knock down drafts and provide gear storage! Hold on to your wallets!! I'm in the beginning stages of a limited production run at the moment, and will have a few to sell soon!
