    down migration during washing?????

Hey guys, I have a huge problem--I just washed my HG burrow. I was super careful with it, used a front load washer on delicate, with proper down soap etc. (done it before with no problem) Anyway, I now have several chambers that have no down, and several that are over stuffed--------ripped baffle? Migration from the ends? Has anyone ever had this happen? What do I do? The wierd thing is, its a group of 4 baffles that are empty. I could see one ripping, but 4? I'm pretty ticked off and upset right now---I wished I would have hand washed it instead of using the machine--the burrow was one of my favorite pieces of kit What do I do now?

Have you already dried it? Down can clump together when it's wet and will fluff back up after it's dry. I hope that's the case or else you might have to see if HG can fix it for you.

Dry and shake back into baffles.. The feathers will slowly migrate back.

reasons lots of Down coats if made correctly will sew a Square to trap feathers. So they do not Migrate south. So to speak.

I agree with contacting HG, but to find out if you have ripped baffles, try starting at one end of a baffle and pull it from both sides working your way along it's length. I would think you could find any loose areas. This will give you more info to discuss with Adam/Jenny.

I'd contact HG first, but I've read that tumbling in the dryer with no heat and a bunch of tennis balls helps to reloft the down... I always wonder if people buy a dozen tennis balls for this.

I bought a tube of tennis balls for this purpose. Kept them hidden away in my gear closet to keep them clean, too.

Then came home from work one day to find my daughter had gotten into my gear closet and decided to play fetch with the dog using them. Now I'll need to buy more for the next time.

I have learned a few tricks from a friend that helps washing down.

Simply use small powerful magnets and stick them everywhere you can before washing. With one on each side, they will stick together very strongly and will prevent the down from moving. Works even better when used to block the passages between the baffles if you know where they are located. Don't worry about the magnets sticking to the sides of the machine or together, everything will come out clean anyways.

To work the down back in place, simply use a vacuum cleaner. This will not only dry out the down but it will also be attracted to the nozzle, making is easy to move around the baffles.
