    12 foot tarp ridge line

Hi, I'm relatively new to hammocking, and I'm finalising logistics for my second thru-hike attempt this March/April. Hoping to hammock from the get go. I recently purchased a HG cuben fiber with doors and it's an excellent bit of gear. Really pleased with it!
However when purchasing I decided to go for the optional extra foot of ridgeline (12 foot ridge line) and now regret this. I hadn't thought about how the additional foot of length compromises getting the tarp set low when it's windy/rainy. The webbing of my hammock gets in the way!
Guess I'm going to have to order another in the standard 11 foot ridgeline. This time I'll go for the camo option

I often had the same issues when using a huge poly tarp.

I solve this but using a tarp clip like those:

I simply put the tarp loosely over the hammock line, pinched both sides of the tarp over the line and use the clip as an attachment point with a Prusik knot to the ridgeline.

I have a tarp with a 12ft RL and have never had this problem I would suggest hanging the hammock lower to get the tarp closer to the ground, or just get a Under Quilt protector so you wont need to have the tarp as low, thats a pretty large purchase to repeatedly be making. You could contact HG and see if he will trade it out for an 11ft one
It's not the fall im scared of, it's the sudden stop at the end!!!

Wouldn't it be a better option to get a longer hammock?

You might try selecting trees that are little farther apart.

I use a 12' tarp complete with doors, with CRL to tree straps and a bridge hammock with whoopie slings to tree straps and I'm not sure how you're having difficulties but might I suggest working out hanging style and/or suspension gear before replacing a tarp, particularly a cuben fiber one!

harebell - Take a look at the suspension here and give it a try. It may be your least expensive fix.

Very nice video in your link Jcavenagh. Best walkthru on the 12' Cuben I've seen.
    Thanks

Put it up in the for trade section and offer a swap for the 11' equivalent or speak to Adam at hammock gear, I'm sure he could cut a foot off!?
