I had the same issue when I was shipped a 12 foot tarp after I had changed my order to an 11 foot tarp. I did set up the 12 foot tarp to try it before sending it back to exchange for the 11 footer. The 11 foot ridge does allow for a little closer pitch to the hammock than the 12 foot. I use 11 foot hammocks now and have found that I still can't get the tarp as low I could with 10 foot hammocks. It's a tradeoff you gotta deal with. I use an under quilt protector when camping in rain or windy conditions for better protection after learning the hard way. I camped last summer in a rain storm and I was set up in a site with all black dirt with no grass. When I got up the next morning the bottom of my quilt was plastered with mud splatter which was extremely annoying.
