Depends on the use tbh. 6' seems to be a popular length for tree huggers. Are you attaching whoopies or cinch buckles?

My first set were 6 footers. Then I ran into a couple of larger trees and had to find others to hang from that weekend so I went home and made a couple of 9'rs.

I'm no gram weenie so now I carry 1 that's 15', a pair of 9's and the original pair of 6'.

I use tree straps for both the hammock and the tarp so I need 4 anyways.

The actual answer to this is depends on how big the trees are in the areas you hang at. On the easten half of the continent the most common length is 6'. This presumes you are using a whoopie sling or similar type of suspension.

On the western portion of the continent and in the land of biiiiggggg trees, 15' is not unheard of.

If you are also using a full adjustable webbing suspension with cinch buckles (or variations) I think anything in the 12' - 15' length is common for the eastern half of the continent.

    Cheers

For my adjustable webbing suspension I use 15 foot long webbing, after sewing in the end loops I end up with about 14ft long webbing.

I carry two different lengths for greatest flexibility and lightest weight. Usually here in the Southeast, I carry something like a 5' and a 7' (finished lengths) and an Amsteel dogbone of about 3'.

    I use whoopie slings.

I use 5' with 6' whoopies larks headed on and a whoopie hook thru the loop of the whoopie with a cont loop larks headed onto the hammock. I also carry a 2' dog bone of amsteel in, on, or around my pack. This is for backpacking though.

I started with a 15 foot tow strap and cut it into 9 and 6 foot lengths and added a loop to the end that needed it. Gives me some flexibility when one tree is larger.

I've always used 10 footers, and that seems long for here in TX. But I;ve had one instance where I needed dang near every inch on one end.
