A few buddies and I are planning a week long trip into the Linville Gorge in March 2015. Never been before.
Any Gorge Rats here who can throw in some advice...?

First and foremost, linvillegorge.net is worth its weight in gold as a resource.
Second, the only map you should rely on is the ones on the above site, and the Linville Gorge Wilderness map published by the US Forest Service.
Third, plan but allow for changes. The Gorge can beat you up and love you in the same day. Don't overestimate your daily mileage. Make sure you are confident in your orientation skills, as many trails are not marked.
Lastly, enjoy what the Gorge gives you!!

I'll be following this, My son and I are planning on spending a week in the Gorge the first week of June.
SPECIALK
Like stated above, many trails aren't well marked and can be hard to follow at times. Plus depending on which route you take, you can expect lots of scrambling over rocks and fallen trees.
Yep, all good advice from SoundWitness.
linvillegorge.net is the best place to do your homework & plan. There are people there that "know stuff".
Please don't under estimate the gorge & you will love it.
And don't forget to learn about Louies Famous Rock House restaurant. A really nice diversion from the wilderness adventure.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Wow! I'm really looking forward to this! Thanks for the link! I think I'll be ordering the Linville Gorge Hikers Guide pretty soon! I'm pretty good with a map and compass so I'm good there. I'm going to be going with a good group of guys so it should be a blast!
