    Tarp Storage

How does everyone store their tarps when not in use? Compressed in stuff sack or no?

I have a WBSF and feel like it shouldn't be stored in its stuff sack for some reason. Warbonnet's website gives great care recommendations for quilt and sleeping bag storage but doesn't mention tarps.

I've had mine stuffed for about a year with no issues. I can't imagine how that could cause a problem. I just switched to snake skins though, and love the convenience.

Good to hear ... maybe I don't like storing it stuffed because of all the wrinkles well I pull it out .... that doesn't do well with my OCD nature.

Yes, my tarp is very wrinkled when I take it out. It doesn't bother me though.

With quilts, or anything down, it's usefulness is a direct result of its loft... So you protect the loft by compressing it as little as possible. There's no similar aspect to tarps.

Keep mine folded and rolled in its sack. I use it every other weekend so it isn't stored very long until I switch back to my summer tarp.

I think that with your tarp as long as your not putting it away soaking wet and then leaving it like that for long periods of time or storing it in the trunk of your car in 100 degree heat all the time your tarp should be fine

#1 it has to be dry

#2 folded and rolled will pack the smallest volume

#3 the folds, wrinkles will not hurt the tarp and won't affect the function or performance of the tarp so store it short or long term however you would like.

Mine, a WL Tadpole, is permanently attached to my UCR/SLS suspension and all is stuffed into a 12"x 3" mesh stuff sack. Other than making sure that it is dry I don't even give it much thought.

    What they said.

I have an old WB Superfly that is now ~3 years old. I can see no signs that storing it packed up in the stuff sack did any damage to it.

If you don't like the wrinkles, just fold and roll it. On the trail I usually stuff my tarps, but before putting them away at home, I fold and roll them. Takes up less space and looks nicer.

Mine stay in the snake skins and normally in the big outside pocket of my pack ready to go.
