First a little catching up. During the last few nights of November I was awakened in the early AM by a heart attack. No pain, but gasping for breath and soaking wet with sweat. Staggered to my feet, took an aspirin, and made the 911 call. Paramedics arrived in the ambulance and hauled my carcass to the nearest hospital (25 miles) where I spent a couple of days. I was then transferred to a larger hospital (another 75 miles) where I was operated on to replace a valve in my heart. Not fun! After another week or so I was transferred to a nursing facility. I was finally discharged and allowed to go home last Friday.
So now to the point of this post. During my stay in one medical facility after another, it was only a matter of time until questions were asked about my obvious back problems and the type of bed I slept in. I had plenty of time to talk to doctors, nurses, and physical therapists about the benefits of sleeping in a hammock, which I have been doing for the past 2 years or so. WITHOUT EXCEPTION, everyone I talked to came down in favor of the hammock! As for my own experience with sleeping in hospital beds, I hope I never see one of those things again! I'm home now, and have been sleeping in my Brazilian hammock the last 2 nights. Comfort at last. Lesson learned. Medical professionals agree with what most of us already know.
