    Hennessey Hex tarp suspension

Hello, I have recently purchased the HH Explorer and immediately converted the stock suspension to whoopie slings after the first nightmarish setup with the stock suspension. Best decision ever.

What I'm wondering now is if there is a similarly easy and light setup for the Hex tarp. Currently, I'm using quick release knots and while they work OK, adjusting it can get tedious, and I feel like there must be a better solution out there.

After some Googling I did find one video with a knot the guy calls the "Hennessey knot" and it looks promising.

    Anyone have any better suggestions?

There are many options. I am curantly using 550 paracord as a crl with the clips with prusiks from the original suspension to clip to the hex.
Check out www.theultimatehang.com has great info on this and so much more.

I used this process from dehoja. http://theultimatehang.com/2012/11/v...s-with-a-tarp/ only using Dutch gear.

I love the simplicity and adjustability of the setup plus it's lighter.

I should also mention that I will be doing the AT this coming March with this setup. So lightness is key.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I will definitely check out theultimatehang.

So, I'm looking at this CRL with dutch hooks and tarp flyz... Once it is set up in both the video and illustration the line is above the tarp. I thought it was supposed to go under to give it a crisp ridge. Would there be any issue in moving it under? Is there a benefit with keeping it above?

I keep mine under. It's preference really. IMHO you can keep your tarp tighter with it under.

That makes sense. Ok then, one last question. On the Dutchware website they sell 25ft amsteel line. On the ultimate hang he mentions some other brand at 32ft. Is there a general accepted length? Also is the amsteel pretty much the lightest you can get? I'd like to just purchse all of it from dutchware if I can.

*Measured out my current lines+length of tarp. Came out to 30ft. Guess I'll look around for some 30ft amsteel.

**I lie. Took a look at the brand he mentioned and found it on zpacks website. Going to go with that.

Thanks a lot for the help everyone.

I would use the zingit 1.75. How are you going to attach your tarp to the line? I can't recall what he had said the line was. Was it dynaglide? Length is really dependent on the distance between trees and method of attachment. 32 feet would be good. It's something to play around with before you head out. Amsteel is light but I don't think I would personally use it for a crl. Dutch has great gear. I just got a couple stingerz can't wait to try them out.

I ended up getting 1 dutchware stingerz, 1 dutchware dutch hook, 50ft of Z-Line Slick Dyneema Cord (1.4 mm / 330lb Z-Line Slick). If I'm looking at this illustration correctly that should cover everything. Glad I'll get an extra 20ft too. Figure I'll use it for a bear bag line.
