I've only done part of it, many years ago. The main concern I would have is that, from what I'm told, there is very little water to be had up on that ridge line. Maybe someone else knows more.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
Mt Mitchell is not a bald. Lots of Balsams. You may have to stealth, its an international bio sphere which means our country gave it away and it has special rules about camping.
So are there rules against hammocks? And how about Grandfather Mt? It is a inernational biosphere as well. anybody hung there?
Relax, monsters under the hammock are easily distracted by twister-playing squirrels.
there was water @Deepgap last year @ this time. its on the west side down an old road.best i can remember there are plenty of trees for hammock
Supposed to be a rather strenuous hike. Just a heads up
NP hanging at Grandfather mtn for me. Nice place for hanging!
Make sure you hang your food well- last time I was there with my girls, a bear spent a good 30 mins trying to get to ours! We watched (kinda scared) as he even tried to push the tree over!
Perkolady
Thanks perkolady for bear info! Last year after I hiked out I toured the mountain. One of the workers said they "shu" bears off the swinging bridge a couple times a year. I plan to buy a bear vault. Heard of many other bear stories on Grandfather.
