    Cheap underquilt

I'm looking for an underquilt. Price is the primary constraint. I only camp when it is warmer, nights in the 50s / 40s so no need for a super low rated quilt. Just looking to ditch my sleeping pad. I would like to stay in the $100 range. Does a product like that even exist ?

    Cheap underquilt

A poncho liner alone will get you down to the 50's not much lower for most. If you want to buy one a jarbidge from arrowhead equipment is awesome. You could always sew one if you have some thread injecting skills. I see I was beat to the punch.

I made a climashield DIY full UQ that's about a 40 degree rated. Super simple.

There are tutorials on this site for them. One of the early posts in the forum.

    If you DIY:
Layer of fleece, then possibly a reflective inner and bottom layer of ripstop.
Same combo has taken me (coldish sleeper) down to 43F comfortably (if not super warm).
I think Dos has it now.
    Directionally challenged...comicly so.

Not all who wonder are lost...But I'm probably just lost.

If you can sew you can DIY a synthetic UQ or TQ for about $75 in materials. The Clamashield insulation is the expensive part of the project.

Otherwise the Arrowhead Jarbrige UQ is a great value. I own 2 of the 3 Season and 1 of the 1 Season Jarbige's
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

What do you use for the 'reflective liner'?
I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

Wow whenever I read these responses I feel the need to learn to sew. I have been researching the jarbidge and think that is the way to go for me due to the lack of sewing skills.

Here's my thought...something I'm intending to try myself.

    1. DIY underquilt protector. Basically, a rectangle of nylon (ripstop for breathable, sil for waterproof). Pretty much the simplest sewing project you can start with. Very lightweight at just a few oz.

    2. PLUQ- poncho liner underquilt. You can make one that is sewn, or one that is not. Add some shock cord, and it's what has been mentioned above. Relatively simple and low cost, but not the lightest or smallest thing you can go with.

    3. Space blanket/emergency blanket. Extremely lightweight, and can add quite a bit of warmth if used properly.

My intent is to simply layer the above items, in reverse order from how I listed them, going out from the hammock. So, attach the PLUQ, put the space blanket inside of that, and then add the UQP outside of all of that. Should be comfortable down to about 40F at least for most folks. Whole thing should cost you considerably less than $100, and be effective for the ranges you're looking at.
