    The Hammock I made

    [CENTER]My homemade hammock- part 1
OK here we go, I did this thread for a couple of reasons , but one in particular. I have been feeling guilty about not posting as much as what I have been getting out of this excellant site that has changed the way I backpack forever. My hat goes off to all of you that make this site happen and in some small part this is my contribution to the hammock comunity of this multi part thread on how I make my hammocks. I used several sources from this site and for that I say thank you.
Please excuse the mispelling and incorrect sentencing, this is he first thread I have ever done. I have also uploaded alot more pics in my gallery that were not included in the thread.

    Let's Get Started

    Material:
1.1 uncoated nylon ripstop secounds from www.diytacticalstore.com
    no-see-um mesh from www.questoutfitters.com
    #3 YKK Continuous coil zipper
#3 double pull coil zipper slider from www.thru-hiker.com
    2.8mm spyderline from www.apsltd.com
    smc rappel rings from www.rei.com
camp usa nano 23 biners from www.rei .com
polyester thread, tex 30 6,000 yrds from www.speerhammocks.com
seat belt material straps ( tree huggers) from www.strapworks.com

I started with two peices of 1.1 ripstop both cut at 98in. x 62in. I used this measurement because of my height. I took the advise given on Just jeff's Hiking page www.tothewoods.net concerning how do I make my hammock (Awesome site) Your sizes may differ from mine. Also it depends on your sewing abilities or what some of us call (gear making) ( see pic #1. Then I pinned & roll hemmed the left side. ( see pic #2). next I put a flat fell seam at the top end ( see pic#3,4,5,6,7).

Now I moved to the other side and put down a flat fell seam at foot end and a roll hem on the right side just like i did before.

Now this next step will apply to both ends. I brought up the ends coming in about 1 1/2in. to create a loop on both ends & sew it to the body with a couple single straight stiches, this is done so I can pass my spyderline through. ( see pic #8,9)

Now that the hammock body is compleate I will hang the hammock so that I can get ready for the bugnet, coil zippers, ridge line, ring buckle suspension. ( see pic #9)

Very nice. Can't wait to see how you do the zippers. That's what I'm puzzling on right now.
