Father-Daughter hammock camping at Mount Pleasant, VA

My daughter has backpacked with me before but this is the first time we've done the hammock thing together. Her enthusiasm was sparked after "testing" my hammock in the backyard (which I had setup so I could test it!) I've grown comfortable enough with the setup that I bought her a hammock, rigged up some matching whoopie slings, and enlisted her to help sew her own top quilt (M90 + Climashield Apex) with a matching underquilt.

We had a great time! Thanks to all on the forums for the fantastic advice, write ups, and guides. Most of the gear we took (top quilts, underquilts, tarps) were all MYOG.

That's fantastic! Not only is she backpacking with you, but using gear that she made!

    WoW! Beautiful trip, beautiful pics.

My daughter turns 20 in less than a week. I can tell that this is a precious time you'll be recalling in the far-too-near distant future.

    Thanks for sharing.

That's awesome! Great photos . My kids are still too young, but pretty soon they'll have pack on and hiking right along with me.

Great times. I've been backpacking with my 9 year old one trip three day trip a year for the last few years with her. It's amazing to see them power through climbs and miles with a very good attitude. We also hammock camp and she's quick to tell people how much fun hanging is and how much of a drag tent dwelling is. I've had to tell her that tents are fine too but really her old man has rubbed off on her just a tad.

Thanks for sharing the adventure! Looks like y'all had a great trip. Loved the pictures, your daughter looked like she was enjoying spending time with dad in the piney woods.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Mt Pleasant is a great place for hammock camping! There are so many areas- from top to bottom- that are suitable for hanging. Having the AT pass through the area makes it all the better. Nice job with the recruitment
