How Do You Do It? Rigging that is!

I am just wondering how you are hanging your superfly tarps. Do most people use the "V" method, or do you run straight tarp to tree?

I'm not planning on a CRL, so that should help.

I'm trying to get an idea what people are doing and the length of zing it used. So maybe a "V" method would use say 20ft and straight shot only 10ft. Is this too much, not enough? I understand everyone is different and answers will vary.

So then, maybe when it gets a little warmer, I can maybe sort out my new gear!

    Thanks in advance! Heisenberg

Why no love for the CRL? I do like the ability to center the tarp.

The superfly is so big, lol. It practically centers itself! I had a clark I used a CRL and prussiks, that was nice. Just wanted to get some ideas. I looked at the sticky at the top of the post and saw the "V" method, which I wasn't aware of before. So, I just wanted some feedback.

I use whatever the situation calls for. If I have enough distance between the trees I use the V, if the distance between trees is tight then I use the straight method. My lines are each 12' long and I've never come close to running out of line. But I'm in the SE and our trees aren't all that big.

OldRagFreeze, thanks for the post, I have seen these too! I appreciate it!

Ironman65, see sticky at top of weather protection thread, called tarp rigging or something like that.

I just want to know how most people rig their tarps, lengths of line of "V" versus straight line rigging. Thannks

I also use 12 foot lines and the "V" when trees are close enough (most always in the south). I hang the Tarp first then center the hammock.

Usually the "V" with slippery tautline hitches which allows for easy adjustment and take-down. Since I set one side to the distance from the tree I desire, the other side gets done to taut. Can't remember the last time I needed to adjust. I don't center the tarp, I center the hammock. Only time I don't use the "V" is for extremely large diameter trees.

So how long are your lines then? We have some pretty big aspen and pine up here in the north.

    Thanks for the feedback!
