    Sale today on Amsteel

Just received an email; West Marine has bulk rope on sale today only, 40% off. Picked up Amsteel 7/64 grey for .15/ft. No shipping cost but did have to pay sales tax (if there is a West Marine in the state you are buying in). 50 feet for $7.80 including tax. 50 feet was the most it would let me purchase. Hope this helps someone.

Where did you find Amsteel Blue 7/64 on the website? I don't see it anywhere.

I think you ordered New England Ropes Dyneema STS 12-75 7/64 Single Braid Rope. Amsteel Blue is made my Samson Rope.

Like Silvrsurfr, I couldn't find sampson amsteel in 7/64, saw New England Dynema single braid STS 12-75. This is made of the same dyneema-75 fiber as amsteel, and has the same nominal diameter and 12-strand braid, but has a manufacturer rated breaking strength of 1000 lbs compared with 7/64 amsteel rated at 1600 lbs.

For me that was good enough.

I managed to put 100' of 7/64" dia. in my cart @ $0.15/ft (+tax) and free shipping to my house. Great find.

3/32" (2mm) is rated 1,000# & their 1/8 (3mm) 2,800# so the 7/64ths should fall in between and closer to the 2,800# rating. It appears that the 2 ropes are quite similar in ratings and construction. Let us know how it works. The New England site also has splicing instructions for their 12 strand products.

I'm guessing they are selling the 2mm line, but are labeling it in English units as 7/64" rather than 3/32". NE Ropes doesn't seem to have a 2.5mm STS-12 line. In their catalog West Marine states the line is 1000lb breaking strength. The diameters are all nominal. The rated strength and weight/ft are the defining characteristics.

My profuse apologies! Everyone is correct I did purchase the New England 7/64 rope. I have used this in the past with no issues. I'm 250 lbs. Sorry this was misleading, certainly wasn't intentional.

We love the deal you posted. I was just providing clarifying information to make sure folks following the buy recommendation from the thread know what they are getting. I'm very happy with my 100' buy.

    Thanks again!
