It's in the middle of the night here and I'm really sleepy but... kerryandjane, by all means hijack the thread. I think (hope) my question will be interesting for other noobs too, so the more info in it the better!

Still getting the hang of it
On the hammocks I use Dutch Clips with I paint the Head End Dutch Clip Red. I also use a red cord lock on the head ends of my double ended stuff sacks to indicate the head end.
When I use Whoopies on a hammock that has a head and foot end I do use different colors to indicate the head and foot ends. I will also use different colored Biners
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
My hammock is in skins with whoopies wrapped outside to bundle the package as as sausage - Gray head! Black feet! Easy for old guys to remember.

Hahahaha!
Thanks for all the answers I've really got some good ideas from this.
Been ogling the Dutchware stuff for a while now, but shipping from the US is expensive Guess I'll drop him a mail to see what my options are.
'Red is head' doesn't translate well to Dutch, but 'Black as soot is for your foot' does and will be a fun way to remember the colors for my kid (and maybe for people who don't want to use red as well )

Thank you for that suggestion kerryandjane, I had looked up shipping on the usps.com website, and that was almost $24. Dutch's website calculated it as $14.44, which is much better and the total (goods + shipping) beats local suppliers. Plus, I got to order some Dutch hooks with it

I added a red continuous loop (maybe 3-4 years ago) on the head end of my better half's hammock as well as the kids hammocks, red=head. Worked great so they could set up their hammocks facing the right way (facing each other when zipped open), without second guessing or any confusion late at night. Works great for them as we have never had an issue since that was added.

Thanks for the heat shrink tubing idea. I use red = head too, though it's often manifested as an orange amsteel whoopie. However, don't get me thinking that red might mean "right"; it's downright anti-nautical!
I was taught to remember port and starboard by thinking of a man going into a wineshop and asking, "Do you have any red port left?"
