    In the Smokies

I am joining the forum to glean as much info as I can. My wife and I moved back to her hometown area of Townsend/Maryville, TN a year-and-a-half ago. My main Florida hobby of cave diving did not translate well here. So, I started hiking. I need to get away from the AT Trail shelters, so I have been playing around with an old rainfly and bivy, but I need to get off the ground because the of amount it rains in the Smokies. Hence, I joined. Thank you for all of your collected knowledge.

Welcome to HF. The Smokies have plenty of trees and beautiful spots. Several hangers in the area as well. Enjoy.

Welcome from a Ga hanger. You are in the right spot for learning about hammocks. You are in a perfect spot for testing them out.

Welcome to the forums from SC. For diving, look at Lake Jocasse, SC, just a bit south of you. A forum member, Fire in my Bones, dives there.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

Hey TreadSoftly - nice area you are in. I hope you find enjoy the hiking. I can't imagine cave diving but I'm always drawn to watching the shows of people doing it.

Great to hear of others in Maryville. The GSMNP is my stomping grounds as well. Hope to be doing a bunch of hiking and backpacking with my new wife this summer. Maybe we will cross paths.
