Welcome neighbor, I'm over here in Slidell. Lots of folks heading to Arkansas mid March for the 5th annual hang. The more the merrier.
I continue to look for LA trails too.

Welcome from Baton Rouge, or actually about 10 minutes south east of Baton Rouge. BTW it's a 10 hour drive for me to the AR hang and it's going to be well worth it. Lots of set ups from hammock vets, get set up by Spaceweasel

Good to see ya on the forums. I am in the Denham Springs area.
Welcome from another Monroe, LA hanger! I have "converted" some friends and my son's scout troop has designated the last two camp outs as hammock camp outs. Glad you posted. Maybe we can get a local group going.
Kind of an old post, but I don't see the harm in bumping.
There are a few other options. Chicot State Park (sort of between Opelousas and Alexandria) has a 19 mile backpacking trail that encircles a large lake. It's a loop, so no need to have two cars. However there are 6 or so designated campsites, and just camping anywhere off-trail isn't allowed. These sites have been filled both times I've gone to this park. Might be ok on weekdays.
In Mississippi there's the Black Creek Trail near Wiggins. It's 16 miles, end to end. There are several trailheads. I've heard that it's not marked very well, but is kept up nicely with plenty of camping opportunities (and easy access to water, seeing as how it follows Black Creek). This flyer has directions to three of them. http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...rdb5213980.pdf
Also in Mississippi is the Clear Springs Recreational Area (AKA Clear Springs Campground, Clear Springs Trail Complex). It has a total of like 25 miles, with several small loop trails. They are well marked, and the terrain is very typical of the area. It's about an hour east of Natchez.
