Who cares about showers, gourmet food, using flush toilets. Just keep on walking and being away from it all.

There are times that the only way you can do something is to do it alone.

I hear good things about BSF from people in Cincinnati. Never made it there myself.

Me I am headed back to New Orleans finally. Was looking forward to getting together with some friends and either hiking or kayaking. But everyone is afraid of a little weather.

We've got a group heading up to the Kachina Peaks Wilderness in N. Arizona for a saturday/sunday single overnighter. We'll hike in and camp out around 11K ft on Saturday, summit Humphreys Peak on Sunday at 12,633ft and then complete the rest of the 20 mile loop back to our car. Isolated thunder showers and possible snow showers in the forecast, with lows in the low 30's. Doesn't get any better than that! The temps down here in Phoenix have already broken through the 100 degree barrier. I'll be hanging in my new WB SL 1.7 Traveler, now my lightest hanging rig at ~15oz incl suspension. I loaned out my WB Blackbird DL 1.1 to a friend for this trip, who has become a hammock convert and is looking to upgrade all his gear. I'm sleeping under a Maccat Deluxe, and he'll be using my Speer 8x10 tarp. I'll be using my Te-wa underquilt and loaning my Nest to my friend for his bottom insulation. He's going in style on his first hang! We have a couple of other people along on this trip who are already extremely interested in hanging, and I'm sure will be converts by the end of the trip.

Is there such a thing as too much food? You burn it all off hiking anyway, right?

When you have to pack extra food so you have enough calories to carry the food you already got....you have too much food.

I think I'm being forced to go to Kansas.
Grandma has been sick and I'm getting guilted from all sides so I guess I'll probably go. Back to doo-dah once again.

We're going out the a Marion Forks and Eight Lakes Basin area here in Oregon this weekend. Leaving tonight and coming back Monday. My wife and I are the only hangers, and 1 girl is going to try it out.

    Lost Creek

Hang Friday night at 10,460 ft. near the Colorado Trail. Saturday I will be helping plan a short reroute of the Colorado Trail. Sunday and Monday I climb Windy Peak then bushwhack up Goose/Lost Creek.
