Cool Tool For Splicing The Small Stuff

***Attention all knotheads & DIY splicers***

Just found a super cool splicing tool for working with small diameter line, it's made for splicing the newer big game fishing line, but will excellent for zing-it/lash-it and 7/64 amsteel.

The company is Daho products http://www.dahoproducts.com/Work.html they can be purchased online from the sites selling big game fishing tackle gear, do a google on "Daho loop splicing needles" and you'll find them.

I just ordered some, and I think they will be real handy.

    Happy trails.....Jim

Woah, these look great! I'm assuming the loop on the end is flexible and lays flat. Much nicer than the folded over piece of wire I'm using now!

    Which Size?

Once you've had a taste, let us know which size works best for Zing It & 7/64 Amsteel.

    Neat, but....
I'll stick with my $2 music wire.

It works for Zing/Lash-it, 7/64, and 1/8" Amsteel.
It is made from .020 guitar string or music wire. Bent just past in half.
Easily slides through all the sizes core and can be pushed out any where you like between strands.

Like this on a Zing-it end bury:

That loos really nice. I happen to TIG weld and found stainless filler rod works really also. It is thin (depending on what thickness you get) and stiff. It also allows you to make a tight loop.

Cool Tool For Splicing The Small Stuff *Update*

    Ahoy Peoples!

I received my DaHo splicing loop needle in the mail a few days ago, and it's the bee's knee's I ordered the X-large one (1.65mm), It's just the right size for splicing zing/lash it.

I whipped up some continuous loop prusicks out of 1.8mm dyneema for my tarp ridge line tonight using the loop needle, and it works great.
    Here are some photos

Thanks for the photos - very helpful. These are real quality tools. The large reverse latch needle might be perfect for McDonald locked brummels, where you need to reach through the line and pull a loop back through.

Click the link and then scroll way down to see loop needles and latch needles. I've ordered from Charkbait and also from BHPtackle. The Smitty Latch Needle set is a cheaper alternative, but also a bit smaller. I've used them with Zing-it, but it helps to taper the line in order to grab onto it, though you can grab a loop for a McDonald locked brummel if you're careful. They're especially good for the 130 and 200 lb test spectra I use a lot.
