Sipsey June Hangout - June 12-14

Hey everyone. Ihangnbankhead called me on the phone from work a few minutes ago and asked that I post some initial info about a late-notice June hangout in Bankhead National Forest (Sipsey).

This hangout will be a little different than the previous ones, given the time of year (HOT!!). The idea is to camp at the Brushy Lake Campground, and see about taking a day float-trip (kayaks and canoes welcome!) down either Brushy Creek or Rush Creek, depending on the water levels.

Aside from the float-trip, this will be mostly a car-camping type event so anyone that attends should break out the heavy gear (coolers, cookware, etc).

More details will be forthcoming in the next few days.

The last time I was there!

The last time I was there was back in the early 90's and the last time I canoed down Brushy Creek was in the 80's. You can tell by the pictures. These are in the 90's pictures, who knows what I looked like in the 80's? The map is showing 7.4 miles from Brushy lake to takeout bridge. My friend that's in the Huntsville canoe club, Is telling me that is all-day trip and would be a good overnight-er trip depends on the water level - log jams? So if everyone that shows up and wants to do that let me know. But I will leave No one behind at the campground over night, NO ONE! We will all hang together! Rush Creek looks like 4+ miles and maybe a good short day trip? This is a start and we got 3 weeks to plan! Thomas

Have a blast. Catch ya next time.
