Will u be using a under quilt or a pad in your hammock? I just haven't made up my mind if I want the snipe ( And keep using a pad in my hammock like I do with my eno singlenest) or a lite owl that gives me the option to insert a pad.
hey man...well...im a noob so Ill give you my justification the best I can.
I went with the snipe because its pretty versatile from what ive read.
It is reversible ...meaning if you want to lay head right... feet left... you can.
if you don't like that.... you can turn it inside out and lay the opposite way...
I wanted be able to have options.
also ...it is a very light weight ...11ft hammock ... and Ill be backpacking with it.
I knew I would be using a underquilt for sure...so I knew Id be ok with a single layer.
If you are definitely using a pad you should get a double layer.
You can use a pad with a single but I guess its pretty inconvenient.
If you go with a double ... you can always get a quilt later.
like I said ....take my advice with a grain of salt ....and ask others more questions.
Ive worn these guys out with my questions.
hope that helps.

Though I now have an UQ I still sometimes use a thin pad to supplement in extra cold or in place of the UQ in wet conditions or if I might need to go to ground. If you might use a pad some of the time it might be worth the extra few ounces to go with the double layer Light Owl. It's also uber comfortable.
