    Indoor Ceiling Hang

I would like to hang my hammock inside but i cannot find any wall studs, even with a electronic stud finder. : ( I have been it the attic and measured where the ceiling joists are. My plan is to hang a bar down from the joists and have the hammock on the bar, like turtledogs stand. Would this work?

If you can find the joists, just put an eye-lag in them and be done with it. No bar needed.

I thought it would be better to put a bar in to reduce the sag. Here is the finished set up.

The ropes across are to stop font to back swing.

Neat idea reduces the distance of the anchor points and keeps the proper sag. Just make sure you don't grasp that bar while in the hammock. What kind of rope in that, it looks like climbing rope? If it a climbing rope you will probably get a fair amount of stretch. Looks good and is a great idea.

Yes it is a climbing rope, I hadn't thought about that. It has been fine so far. I might increase the length of the wooden bar to make it comfier for a bigger hammock.

Ok, sort of an opposing force ridge pole. It wouldn't be needed if you could get the eye-lags far enough apart.

I would recommend the bar, then the only force on both the lags and the joists is 1/2 your weight, and it's straight down, the best of all worlds.
    Good luck,

Logie, your idea is growing on me. I kind of wish I'd thought of it and I like the cross truss ropes to eliminate the end-end swing. Of course it would be cooler with spliced Amsteel.

I really like your idea. In my room I had to adjust for the windows so I couldn't get it quite where I'd hoped. But from the ceiling I'd have a lot more flexibility.
