Tarp line, stretch or no stretch

I made my lines shorter and put a locked brummel on either end of each line. That way I can quickly move them around if need be. I can also add length by larks heading one to another. I'm using 1.75mm. I had some spare cat 5 laying around so I used a single strand to make my splices and bury. It worked well. Time consuming though.

    Here's the sticky I referred to https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=13328

You may want to do a search on bury length. Mine are 3" and taper another .5 or so from there. I don't know if I'll get all the strength of the line with that short of a bury. It is well enough to cinch down my tarp though.

In addition to Nhott's link, google "eye splice with locked brummel" and you'll get lots of instructions and videos. Here's a poor quality video I did some time back so you can see how it goes.

Splicing an eye on tarp guylines seems like a lot of extra work when a almost any type of loop knot would serve the same purpose. I personally use a bowline which allows me to add/remove lines the same way as having an eye splice.

Yes, but when you use the guy lines with a spliced loop on the stake end in conjunction with line locs and a piece of shock cord, you have a guy line that adjusts super easy, doesn't loosen off in rain and wind and needs no knot tying whatsoever!!

I suppose. Still seems like a lot of work. Plus I don't use stakes, line locks or shock cord. A tautline hitch works fine for me for the rare times I need to adjust.

I would love to use a spliced loop and cord locks but I currently use Nite-Ize reflective cord which has a core so I can't do that like with lash-it. I like the laser show too much at night because I get clumsy at 2 am. Good thing is it is low to now stretch.

I have a tadpole and used a loop of shockcord in between the tart guy point and zing-it. There is too much give in windy conditions so will be removing the shock cord. It is nice getting around that tarp, you can just pull the guys up and go under them if needed.

Tarp line, stretch or no stretch

It really comes down to personal preference regarding the rigging. The lash-it you purchased is the important aspect.

    My progression went as so..
    1. I had been using paracord because I already had some and didn't feel like spending more money.
    2. Learned how to tie different types of knots and discovered I am not a fan of tying and untying knots.
    3. Rained on the Appalachian trail. Couldn't use tent stakes due to hard rocky ground. Paracord became a wet muddy stretched mess. Understood why not to use paracord. Thought about a continuous ridgeline.
    3. Bought Zing-it.
    4. Decided on regular fixed loop (don't know the term) on one end and backsplice on the other.
    5. Experimented and didn't like a regular fixed eye as it was pretty easy to remove when the line wasn't taunt.
    6. Switched to fixed eye using locked brummel and backsplice on the other end.
    7. Experimented again. Needed a couple of longer lines in porch mode so used my 4' lines from my doors tied to my 5' lines. Remembered that I hate tying knots. Still thinking about a continuous ridgeline.
    8. Had time to kill so pulled the backsplice out and put a locked brummel on that end as well.
    9. Now I can move lines around quickly and can also simply add a few lines to make a continuous ridgeline with no knots.
    10. Aesthetically pleasing. Time saving.
