    Cheap-cost High-quality Hammock

Hello. I mostly camp in the Adirondacks, with boy scouts and friends, and I've decided that I want to try something new for sleeping arrangements this year, so I looked up hammocks, and found this forum. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an entry level hammock? From what I've seen, to buy a complete set with hammock, bug net, and tarp is $200+, so I wanted to know if there was anything out there for under $100. I really only need a hammock and bug net; I can just use a tarp of my own. Thanks

You coul easily get A Skeeter Beeter Pro and a Funky Forest tarp from Grand trunk Goods for around that amount. Here's the link http://grandtrunkgoods.com/.

A few of the hennessy jobbies are in that price range too. The scout, if you're short enough, is under 100 and includes the tarp. I think there are a couple of other ones for $120/130ish for taller people.

I would think that you would be a lot happier with an entry level Hennessey. The entry level Hennessey retails for 99.95 but you can probably find them a lot cheaper. check ebay.

    Here are the specs:

Thanks a lot everyone. I found a Hennessy Scout hammock set on ebay for $79, so I think I'll go with that. Thanks again.

Hey there! I'm from the north end of the Adirondacks, and I was out hammocking this weekend. It's great!

The recommendations above are good ones--you might also look into any of the homemade hammocks at http://www.imrisk.com/ like, for example, the TestHammock at http://www.imrisk.com/testhammock/testhammock.htm . Might be a good way to see whether you like hammocking.

Realize, of course, that other hammocks may be more comfortable for you--I vastly prefer lying asymmetrically, which is easier in a hammock designed for it. But you can't beat the price of a homemade TestHammock.

You'll find various homemade mosquito nets; one can be found here: http://www.imrisk.com/hammock/ultraquarterweight.htm

Or you can just buy one. Good luck! Maybe we'll get together and camp sometime!

You can get a better Hennesy than the Scout here for $100.00. The Expedition is a pretty standard starter hammock and you'll likely find it better than the Scout, but either one will work just great. I love my Expedition.

I haven't seen scott for a whaile, but the last I knew he was having trouble getting some stock from Hennessy. Fire him off an emial before you you order. Scott's a good guy and has alwas answered his email from me.

Unless you're small, the HH Expedition is the better choice. I had an email from Hennessy explainging the difference between a Scout and Expedition, but can't find it right now. The gist of it was that lying on the angle is more limiting in the Scout, so it's harder to get flat unless you're of shorter stature.
