    Cot shaped hammock

Here is my first home made hammock. It was an experiment to create a cot like hammock. I haven't used it a lot since I finished it in the fall and didn't go out this winter.

Also known as a "bridge" hammock.

I made a thread about making a hammock similar to the above; and I got responses that it is merely a regular spreader bar hammock with suspension on the sides as opposed to a "true bridge" that has cat cut sides and a V/U shape body and spreaders not connected to the fabric.....

As there does not appear to be any significant sag in the suspension lines, my fear would be snapping a line or having some part of the suspension fail. Use the hammock hang calculator (you can Google it) so see how much pull you would be putting on the suspension and anchors and make sure the trees/anchor points and suspension lines and hardware are strong enough to prevent failure. Stupid physics.

Very inventive but what if there are no super fat trees?

Then he uses two or more side tie downs to stabilize it.

I use a Bridge and love it. That said, I like the idea that this hammock offers much less shoulder squeeze.

The post above about hang angle and breakage is on my mind -- how can this be worked around without having sag in the hammock? I like the flat lay of my bridge.

All the bridge hammocks i've seen you hang below the lines. I always thought of a suspension bridge as being like the "tacoma narrows bridge" Where the ropes form a curve and the roadway (or hammock) is suspended below that. I tried to make this so the lines were tense when it is up, kind of like a tentsile hammock.

Thank you. That is an interesting resource. I'll have to figure out how to do those calculations as well. I'm going to test this more next summer. If I want it really flat I'll need some kind of come along and heavier rope I guess. By hand, I am guessing I could get at most 300 lbs on a rope. Can't imagine I can pull much harder than that.

I can tie it to 4 trees to distribute the tension. I guess I would have to let it sag a bit if they are too small.
