You make a continuous loop by splicing or tying a knot and then you make the Prusik on line. Girth hitch the other end of the continuous loop top the tarp D-ring. The Kleimheist is also a good one. The prusik or kleimheist slide along the line but hold under tension. Ideally you use a smaller diametre line for the loops but if you use the same diametre, an extra wrap or two makes it hold. Some make a fixed loop on the line for the stake but you could also use a marlin spike hitch to secure the line to the stake.
