Underground topquilts vs hammock gear topquilts?

I need some help deciding between Underground Quilts topquilts and Hammock Gear topquilts. I know they are both top quality and have great warranty/customer support. I am looking for a multicam dwr quilt to match my Ridgerunner. What I am wondering is are there any features that you like better that one has and the other doesn't? Does anyone have both? What do prefer and why? Thanks Sean

I can't speak for Underground (but I've heard nothing but great things about them!) but as for HG they are amazing! I have two of their top quilts and they are top notch! As for advice, I love the sewn footboard instead of the snaps. That being said I do most of my backpacking in Utah where the temps usually dip quite a bit even in the summer. Also I love the Argon material. Either way you go I'm sure you'll love it, good luck!

I'm also not familiar with underground quilts or their stuff. The Argon material (that HG uses) is very soft and nice against your skin, but I'm not sure the multicam print is available in that fabric. Best check that, since you say multicam is important to you. FWIW, I prefer snaps in the footbox, so it can be either open or closed -- but this depends on the conditions you're hanging in, and maybe your feet.

Not very familiar with HG but I own several UGQ both top and bottom. UGQ offers a multicam but it is 70d for tarps. The Illume fabric is fantastic on the skin. You can save a few $'s getting duck down at UGQ. My advice is to give them both a call and talk to them. I can attest to the great customer service from Paul & Missy, and I have heard the same about HG.
Its a proven fact that 78.4% of all statstics are made up on the spot.

I think you're snow blind up there is buddy... We've been offering MultiCam for a while now on all our quilts. Just scroll down the page for the particular quilt you're looking at and there will be an option to add the MC fabric. We are also final testing some Woodland Camo as well as a Winter Camo will be here for testing Tuesday....

Our MultiCam fabric is from the same supplier as WB, should be a spot on match. As for UGQ vs HG, I always say Adam/HG makes a fine product but I'm a little partial to UGQ.... Regardless of vendor you'll be very happy with either of us.

OK -- you are definitely talking two fantastic vendors and two fantastic lines of quilts.

The only distinguishing feature that I am aware of (besides the availability of less expensive down at UGQ) is the nature of the sewn footbox.

UGQ. You have a choice of the cinched-end footbox or sewn. Paul told me that what they do for the sewn option is they just sew the end flat. I'm thinking that would not be as comfy on the feet. My understanding is that HG's "sewn" option ends up looking like a conventional mummy bag at the end -- which I prefer.

That's said, some folks really value the option of opening up the footbox to "vent". But myself -- I've used non-venting footboxes for years and never wished that I could vent. If I'm too hot inside the footbox, I just pull my feet out (or maybe just one leg)!

I don't like the fact that with gathered-end footboxes, the insulation is compressed in the gathering. Basically, in order to avoid a big cold-spot at the foot end, I find that I need to stuff a down vest at the end of the footbox.

So bottom line: I like how HG does sewn footboxes better. If you don't want a sewn footbox, I'm unaware of material differences between the two (but I recommend a sewn footbox).

Both vendors have sterling reputations for doing exceptionally good work, being extraordinarily friendly folks, and just being the kind of vendors you like doing business with. It is difficult to go wrong with either.

That is a distinct possibility with the last storm we got.
