    Wall strength next to windows???

So after a little research, I have seen that some are 100% comfortable with hanging from standard walls studs.

I'd like to be able to hide the eye bolt, and the way my room is layed out, it would work great to hide the bolt behind the curtains along the side of a window.

So are the walls stronger or weaker adjacent to windows?

I understand that there is a beefy header above and possibly below the window, but I'm not sure how stout it would be if I hooked the hammock up to it or to the studs to the sides of the window.

    Thoughts?

framing around a window needs to be beefy. You don't want the house to settle and close in on your window, because you'll no longer be able to open it. There should be at least 2 2x's on the along the side of the window, I've seen some use 4 liner studs even, so you should have plenty of room as well. Have at it

That's great, and since my wife is on a church retreat this weekend, it looks like I'll have the time to rig it all up before she returns.

Generally, even for small windows at least a double 2x4 is on the sides of the window, floor to ceiling. The only better place to anchor is in a corner.

Windows should always have multiple studs secured side by side for a window. I would actually recommend using window studs over wall studs. Same for door jams. They have jack studs and king studs nailed to each other which gives much more strength, imo, than single wall studs.

A lot depends on who framed it. Use a stud finder or tap a screw into the location to make sure there's wood behind it. Also be careful not to center your wall screw eye directly between the two studs that should be there

OTOH, studs adjacent to windows do not have the benefit of those studs that would be where the window is, and would share the load. There is no load distribution in that direction. If there is any deflection at all, the window may not operate properly.

And keep in mind any tortional/rotational for es being applied as well around frames. Best install behind drapes while Elle Jefe is otherwise entertained. Leaves room for abandonment pre notification...
