it's all about site selection I have stayed pefectly dry in pretty bad storms with my postage stamp tarp. but with that said I do love my new sock, but wouldn't carry in the middle of summer. I do carry my 2qzq UQP whenever I don't have the sock.

If you are going with a sock couldn't you save weight by using a smaller tarp instead of the winter one? Won't the sock provide a good amount of wind protection and some protection from splashing/blowing rain?
Forgive me but you said summer and bug season right?... maybe buy the door kit, sell half of it.. Brandons doors are versatile since they are separate and not sewn together option of 2 on one side or 1 on each for changing conditions..
The bug net on the bird retains some heat while still breathing..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..
I think generally you're right. However, I can think of at least one occasion in the last year that I would have REALLY liked to have had doors.
I was in Yosemite on the east side and needed to get over a 11k pass but the wind was just insane. 20-30mph winds for like 2-3 days with 50 degree temperatures.
I got stuck down in a valley. At the time I would have LOVED to have had tarp with doors and a sock or underquilt protector.
With doors I could have taken the hammock really close to the ground and would have been pretty safe and warm inside there...
Do you know about Grizz Beaks? They can be added to a tarp like doors. 2Q ZQ at Hammock Specialties sells them.
