UGQ 50* Flight Jacket. TQ Test & Review

Just received my new UGQ 50* Flight Jacket Top Quilt. It measures 78" x 55" and has Bosa Nova Red exterior and Glacier interior. I requested a 1 oz overstuff to hopefully get me to 45*. It has the snap and drawstring foot box. Fully as advertised, the TQ is very well-made, much attention to detail, looks awesome, and most importantly, kept me very comfortably warm down to 46* last night -perfect! The shell and down are treated for some water repellency, and it packs down well into the included stuff sack.

My base set up includes a WBBB with a JRB 20* 3/4 length Greylock 3 Underquilt and a 2QZQ UQP. I pretty much use this in any/all conditions, except when above 70*. My EE Rev X 20* TQ is used below 45*, and I wanted a clean, easy, small-packing, light and comfortable solution, between 45* and 70*. This Flight Jacket is great, and fits the bill. I have no doubt that I could use it down to 40*, with ther rest of my set up.

I'm very please with the purchase and service.

Thanks for the review and I had planned on purchasing the same quilt for my summer setup. Did yup go with the 700 or 850 wt. down?

I went with the 850 weight. At least for me the temp rating is right on. While I really love my EE Rev X 20*, I needed something cooler above 45*. Given that it often rains where I camp in warmer months, the treated down and shell of the UGQ at their price point was another reason I went with them for my cooler quilt.

Thanks for the review, I was wondering do you think I should get an underquilt before I buy a topquilt

Not sure. Personal choice. For me, I had sleeping bags and blankets I could use for top quilt. But these are not good enough sub 70* without some kind of under protection. Except for putting a ground pad or reflectix inside your hammock, there is no great substitute for an underquilt. I went with UQ first, used my Walmart Ozark Trail sleeping bag as a TQ or my light poly fill Marmot sleeping bag for a TQ, until I got my first TQ.

    Pics ?

I would love to see what a Bosa Nova Red exterior and Glacier interior combination looks like.
