I think the system took a hit when there was a discussion about amsteel getting damaged when it was flattened by the rings. Using a solid braid like the Hennessy standard rope does not seem to be a problem. The rope on the UL versions is different and may be a problem, no idea.

FWIW I messed with amsteel that way to see what happened. The strands are already flat so when the braid flattens I question if there is really a problem. The base material is known for it's stability under load.
    YMMV

not a bad system if you're using ropes; heavier rigs....but I'll take a reversed whoopie sling with dutch clips on the tree strap anyday. That way there are no knots, the tree strap is larks headed to the whoopie sling so you'll never leave it on a tree by accident. It's about as good as it gets.

Here's my 2 cents.. I use reversed whoopie sling too, just without the dutch clips. I find that it works perfect for me. As for my tarp set up I'm switching to fling it and dutch clips/flys for ease of use (and no knots)

Never tried it with Amsteel but I have done it several times on the Hennessy cord and have never seen any damage or kinking and I can't even tell by looking at the rope where it has been suspended and where it hasn't.
