    New from Quebec, Canada!

Hello there! i'm Pat from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. i've been looking here for a week or 2, after I found out about this forum on Randall's training forum and esee knives! Since I moved with my girlfriend, i've been pretty much a potatoe on the couch, she isnt very interested in camping (even if we do it once in a while) but I love camping, and I decided to go back to it, first, by getting a new knife, and now, maybe with a Hammock!

I already have 2 Eureka tents, but I'm looking for more comfort I guess! Tired of feeling all the bumps of an uneven ground, so i'm going into the trees! since i'm not too far from the frontier, we go every summers camping to Vermont, New York, even Delaware last summer!

I will try with a cheap one first, probably a grand trunk, hang it in the backyard and try it a couples of week-ends, If I really like it, I'll try camping...and if not, it's still a nice addition in the backyard for resting and reading during the summer days...

I already have a termarest matress and a sleeping bag of course! so shouldnt be a problem to start slowly!

Hey Pat, a hearty welcome from the Ontario shores of the St. Lawrence River. Just a quick reminder that folks using pads often prefer a double layer hammock so they can put the pad between the layers.

thanks! (je suis a St-Constant actually, the good thing about Montreal, is that you are close to both Ontario and USA...If I need anything for outdoor, I just cross to Plattsburg and there is 2 good outdoor stores that I like, prices are similar, but the selection is much better...I can even go to Lake George and there is outlets there with good outdoor stuff as well...and If I want booze, Ontario is really close and they have a better selection as well...maybe be not my favorite Firefly Moonshine, but they got my Alexander Keith Apple Cider! and no duty

I guess i'll have to check for the double one! I dont know if grand trunk makes those...probably! Might a be good thing to pay a little bit more of the hammock but no need to buy a matress, those a pretty expensive!

Welcome to HF. Camping in a hammock is really very comfortable but it takes a while to get the right one and get dialed in.

I'm thinking about a skeeter beeter and a tarp from Canadian Tire...I see the double layer hammock, but to see if I like it, I would prefer to go cheaper a bit!

    Welcome from BC!

As to saving money, if you know anyone who works in construction see if you can score a 10x12 piece of Tyvek. That's your ultralight tarp. Just tie some line to the corners with a sheet bend. Tyvek is pretty strong and very very light. If it tears you can use gorilla tape to fix it.
