Howdy from Central VA! I'm Adam, and I got started with hammock camping around late March-early April last year (before this, I was a tarp and bivy guy). I understand warm-weather hanging, but could use some pointers on how to do this year-round...found this site, and figured why reinvent the wheel when I can ask others who've been doing this for a while?
As for why I decided to take to the trees, I got tired of Nature trying to share my sleeping bag with me...specifically, the 6+ ft snake that was trying to work his way into my bag for some cuddle time at 2am. Now, I'm all for communing with nature and the like, but sharing a sleeping bag is a bit much...at least buy me dinner and a movie first, eh? So, I decided that since I already enjoy napping in hammocks during the day, why not try it at night? I bought a Single Nest from ENO, a larger tarp, and some tree straps, and haven't looked back since.
