    Whoppie: Dyneema vs. Dynaglide

I want to make a Whoppie sling (actually I want to make a UCR: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=65003), but the I don't like the very unstealthy neon colours of the Dutchware Dynaglide. Could I possibly use Dyneema (Lash it or Tech Line) instead?

Unfortunately dynaglide only comes in two colors, though I wish someone would come along and prove me wrong. You don't want to use Lash-It! or Zing-It! Most folks here (myself included) use 7/64 Dyneema for whoopies/UCRs. Grey and black are a bit less flashy.

Dynaglide is made from Dyneema fibers...well it's the same material but under it's own trade/product name. Amsteel is made from the same material but produced slightly differently from each manufacture.

No you do not want to use lash it for suspension on a hammock....Even the larger 2.2mm size is only rated to 600 pounds which if you hang even a little bit catywompus would likely break. Depending on your weight Dynaglide may not give enough safety margin.

Strength is the least of my worries - Me+my gear<150lbs.

How visible do you think the green dynaglide is? Enough to attract attention when urban stealth camping? Enough to light up from car headlights?

pgibson is right, I should have said amsteel. Many of the cottage vendors here sell 25' lengths of 7/64 amsteel and/or dynaglide. Most marine supply stores carry amsteel, and arborist supply stores often carry dynaglide.

Dynaglide is made my NER who also make a remarkably similar line of ropes called STS-12-75 that perhaps have a different coating and color but are functionally identical. THIS PLACE has it in three colors, and THIS PLACE has is only in white. I was hoping to find some in grey and had no luck so I got some from Vela and had good service from them.

Edit: Actually I recall having found it in grey but only by the spool, and since I hadn't used it yet I didn't want 600' of something I may not like....turns out I like it.
    Good luck,

The forces in hanging a hammock aren't always obvious. At a 15 degree hang angle the sheer force is 373.21 lbs and the cord tension a whopping 386.37 lbs for a 200lb person. Check out Derek Hansen's The Ultimate Hang and The Ultimate Hang Calculator.

I saw that, and decided to forfeit my life for 0.3 oz difference. Judge away!
