Where to keep al my stuff during trekking...

    Hi,

I've been "off the radar" for like 2 years cause off sickness but today I got really bored and decided to look to the future and start a little bit off planning.

I have a little confession to make: I have never used my hammock as a long term sleeping arrangement. (mostly for 1 night)
I did go tenting but never used the hammock.
But now I am planning in the future a trip to southern sweden and that got me thinking.

What do you do with like my backpack when i am hammocking. I haven't got a tent. Do I hang it up or just lay it on the ground (i am a bit afraid for like ants.)

What do you guys do? and is there a commercial solution available?

    Thnks

    Varg

PS: I didn't know where to put this topic.

I usually just leave mine on the floor under the tarp, if it's rainy and windy I'll put the rain cover on and put it right under the hammock.

If it's dry I'll tie a piece of cord round a tree with a shoe lace knot and then using a little karabiner I just hook my pack loop on.

ditto, except when I put it on a tree i use the hip belt. Just cinch it up tight to hold the weight of the pack and use the chest strap to keep it up right.

That's a neat idea, I'll try that one day, probably when I'm not in a plantation with sap and the trees are skinny enough

Just make sure there is no poison ivy or tree slime, it can make for a messy or irritating trip.

I like a simple ground cloth (piece of plastic sheeting, hvy duty trash bag, or waterproof material). I cut my groundcloth big enough to provide full body protection, around 2m x 1m (3ft.x 6ft.). I pack the sheet on the top so its the first thing out of the bag after the tarp is up. It gives me a place to stand while changing shoes/clothes.

If bugs are a concern, treating all your gear with permethrin is awesome at keeping the creepy crawlies at bay.
Once the tarp is up, I can spread out the groundcloth under the tarp, dump my gear out and get to setting up camp and chores.

Garbage bag over backpack, clove hitch over haul strap (on top of garbage bag), hang from tree. Rain free solution, you can even use bag you have from inside of pack for moisture prevention.

I've leaned against the tree, strapped my pack to the tree and hung my pack from a branch on the tree my hammock is hanging from. I have also stored it under my hammock during bad weather wrapped in my poncho.
