Each one of my tarps has strengths and weaknesses. But if I could only have just one - it would be the Warbonnet Edge with half a door kit.

The trick is finding the tarp that works best for each person's requirements, which of course will vary.

For me the WL Oldman Winter is the best balance of price, coverage, ease of use and features for my situation.

I use only one! Etowah 10/10 I can close in the ends like doors if needed! Only gave $100 and it weighs 14oz and is made of silnylon !

I love my super fly for coverage but heavy...I have a few tarps one cuben and two sil but if I were to do it all again I'd spend all that money on one large cuben tarp with doors and use it for every trip...a light weight version of my super fly.

For a 4-season do-it-all tarp, the Superfly.

Pinballwizard, I think the Superfly is actually cheaper than the 11x10 JRB tarp, and it has the doors and the side pullouts which are great to have in the wind. I've hung 2 hammocks under the Superfly, "V'd" off of a single tree at one end, and strapped to 2 adjacent trees on the other. It works, but finding a trio of trees in the right configuration can obviously be challenging.

I totally agree with you that the trio of trees is not always convenient or available. It does happen at times though, more so when you are specifically looking for it. I don't have the skills yet, but when I do, I wonder if it's possible to make 2 tarps that stand on their own just fine, but can be designed to be combined or overlapped specifically to make a bigger shelter for 2. I don't know the design yet, but I think a good name would be the Voltron tarps (throwback to my 80's childhood).

As far as the JRB vs the Superfly, at the time that I wrote that post, the JRB was on sale for $100. Now that it is back up in price, I would probably go with the Superfly, as it seems to be the MASSIVE favorite here. I think the JRB gives a bit of versatility still. I do like that you can pitch it in porch mode from a different line than just the center ridge-line. Also, just a heads up to all: I emailed JRB with questions, and Jack told me that they will be introducing a new 12X10 tarp, so I would be curious to see what that looks like...

I think this thread deserves a poll just to see statistically what people favor. I could also see a poll for the 2 out of 3 categories of a tarp:
lightweight, coverage, price savings. Pick 2
