    Suspension Horror stories

Does anyone know of stories of suspension breakage? I'm trying to find inspiration to be more cautious - considering using Lashit.

    Could you try to include:
    1. Weight of hanger+gear in hammock
    2. Suspension system
    3. Things they did wrong
    4. Death toll
    5. Tales of rabies infected zombie whoopie slings that came back from the dead.

Lashit is not at all rated for hammock suspension. Prepare for a case of butt meets ground if you try to use it. The lightest thing recommended would be Dynaglide. I did hang momentarily from paracord just to see if I could but I only did it for a couple minutes before I got up.

Using Lash-it as a hammock suspension is a horror story. I hope you buy the optional helmet that comes with the Lash-It hammock suspension at:

Well so far, I've heard of several people using lashit, and nothing but good things. So I need someone to talk me out of it (using actual incidents - not safety guidelines) before I end up killing myself. If I do go for it I plan on having no more than 150lbs in the hammock ever.

I don't know anyone using lash-it for hammock suspension. However, nothing says you can't try it. Theoretically, you can hang from sewing thread, albeit very briefly
Let us know how it works out. I would recommend setting up a soft landing space, as with all hammock experimentation.
Oh, that helmet that SilvrSurfr mentioned, is a butt helmet!

Is it hearsay or actual posts of members? If you've read it can you post a link to the threads or wherever you read it? Can't say I've ever read about anyone trying Lash-it. When dealing with your safety, its reasonable to have some kind of safety factor to your suspension. I like many like to have a safety factor of 4 or 5 so I wouldn't use anything rated below 1000lbs for suspension. The weight/bulk saving over amsteel or Dynaglide can't justify trying Lash-it IMO. If you do attempt it, post some picture if you can.

I guess I would wonder why? It's not really noticeably lighter than other ropes that are nearly or more than double the strength depending on which size your referring to. Just to say you did? Not getting the reason to want to hang from cord that is pushing the barriers, personally I have had a broken tail bone, it would be misirable to have to hike out of the woods with a pack on in that condition.

Bubba brings to mind another point....your webbing (assuming you buy some good quality stuff from one of us cottage shops) will be rated to at least 1000 pounds or higher. Why have some weaker component added in?
